and Explanations
These
artworks are created by a combination of very old and very new
technology. The original paintings are painstakingly done in watercolor
and gouache (opaque watercolor) on hot press watercolor paper.
The works are then digitally captured in very high resolution,
and carefully color corrected. A design layout is made with image
placement, type selection, and any subtle background color changes
made to enhance the beauty of the work. A series of test prints
are run, making nuanced color and value changes, and these prints
are compared for final selection.
The selected versions are then printed using very specific color
management settings, on 100% mould made cotton fiber paper, that
is acid, lignin, chlorine free, and ph buffered with calcium carbonate.
The printer uses the most up to date 8 color ink jet technology
and newest lightfast pigmented inks to ensure that the artwork
will last for 100+ years when displayed under glass and exposed
to average indoor light levels. This process, which is often referred
to as “Giclee,” produces an image that rivals the
original, and makes an extremely detailed, color faithful and,
in this case, archival print.
These are not limited editions, ( With the exception of Sweet
Pitcher Plant and Violet Butterwort) although the artist reserves
the right to stop production of any particular print, at any time,
as new works are added to the list of what is available. Limited
edition prints and unique prints may be issued in the future.
Each work is printed separately, one at a time, hand cut off the
roll of paper that feeds the printer, and inspected by the artist
for quality. Each print is then signed, dated, and embossed with
the chop mark of the artists atelier that adds final authority
to the origin of the print.
WHEN YOUR PRINTS ARRIVE
It is not possible to see the level of detail and color these
prints have by viewing the online images. Suffice it to say that
when you receive your print, you can expect a far superior image
than what can be apprehended on the website. I am confident in
the quality and beauty of these prints, and in my customer’s
satisfaction. Most prints are shipped gently rolled with a slip
sheet, inside a sturdy cardboard mailing tube. They are very carefully
packaged so little movement can occur during shipment. With your
print you will receive a Certificate of Authenticity signed by
the artist and more detailed information regarding the care and
framing of the artwork.
If you are not satisfied
with your purchase, return it, undamaged, in its original container,
with the original packaging material, within 60 days of your purchase
date, for a refund. Shipping and handling charges are not refundable.
RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR MATTING AND FRAMING
All mat boards, backing material, and hinging tape should
be acid free for the best longevity and to eliminate possible
discoloration and embrittlement from acids. UV glass or UV plexiglass
will add even more protection from long term effects of light.
Try not to touch the image side of the print when handling, as
the natural surface of the paper easily catches dirt, oils and
other substances that may be transferred by hands or other surfaces.
Water will stain the print. Be very careful handling and moving
the print as the paper is easily creased. If you received your
print rolled, you can gently unroll it onto a clean flat surface,
and keeping the slip sheet on the print, place several books on
top so that the print stays flat. Keeping it like this overnight
should relax the curling and allow it to lat flat. Alternatively
you can keep it rolled until you take it to the framer.
Display in a place where it will not receive full sun. It is common
for museums to display works on paper in subdued light.
